The yamas and niyamas are yogas ethical guidelines. Simply put, the yamas are things not to do or restraints, and the niyamas are things to do or observances. Together they form a moral code of conduct.
I'll talk about the first of the five yamas which is Ahimsa. This yama entreats us to live in a way that we cause no harm in thoughts, speech or action to any living being, including ourselves. It's an unconditional positive regard for everyone and everything. Easier to do when things are going well but harder to do when we are stressed.
Even meditating for five minutes deepens our connections with the inner source of unconditional love and wisdom.........
If ahimsa is mastered, one attains peacefulness, and whoever is in the presence of such a person feels peacefulness.
