It's your first yoga class. Are you nervous? Were you dragged along by a friend?
We were all a little nervous...its something new. I always tell my class that we are here to enjoy the energy of the group but we stay on our own yoga mats, its our own personal practice. As a teacher, I love to see my students modifying or using props because it means that they are taking care of their own bodies. At any time during your yoga practice you can take a rest, then jump back in. If you feel uncomfortable in a pose or that you are just unable to do it at the time, come out of it and enjoy child's pose.
Wear comfortable clothing and take your shoes off by the door when you come in. We practice barefoot. Bring water and eat a light meal two hours before.
Don't worry too much about Sanskrit words. Two that you might hear a lot of:
Savasana: relaxation at the end of class. Laying on your back with eyes closed.
Namaste: May the light and love within me bow to the light and love within you.
Namaste is said at the end of class by the instructor and repeated back by the students.
Not too much to worry about. Right? Relax and have fun!
