Ever heard of an Ashram or wondered what one was? An Ashram is a place for practicing Yoga, Meditation and other spiritual practices to evolve and grow spiritually. Ashrams are typically set outside a village or town in a quiet and peaceful area. An Ashram is an oasis of serenity and calmness. There is no place or need for luxury in an Ashram. Ashrams have existed in India for thousands of years.
There are also Ashrams close to home in the United States. My favorite Ashram is Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York which is only one hour driving distance for me from Stamford, Connecticut. The Ashram is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The Ashram provides a serene, natural environment with woods and meadows surrounding a lake. Accommodations are simple and meals are vegetarian.
I go to this wonderful spiritual retreat as often as I can. Without fail, I drive onto the grounds and immediately feel a sense of relief, calm and serenity...a sense that I'm back home. I can participate in as many of the spiritual activities as I like or just rest by the lake...its all for the best. I go home feeling rested and rejuvenated....living in the moment again.
